One of the big issues at the beginning of the term was the quality of maintenance of our parks. Members of Council received a lot of complaints during the first season (2007). There was a lot of attention paid to this issue during the discussion of the 2008 budget and workplans.
Council received a presentation this week summarizing significant improvements to the level of service.
In 2007, parks were cut on average on a 13 day cycle. In 2008, that was reduced to 9 days. A 30% improvement.
Complaints regarding turf cutting were reduced by 50%.
Complaints regarding weeds were reduced by 53%.
And complaints about playground conditions were reduced by 30%.
Great accomplishments! Park maintenance staff have other areas that they will be focussing on this year to improve including garbage collection and washroom maintenance.
