Multicultural Festival in Guelph

I have been making regular posts on the special days of many cultures. In Guelph, we have a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our community’s diversity at the Multicultural Festival running from June 12 to 14th.

Aboriginal Awareness Week (Aboriginal/Native Canadian) – Aboriginal Awareness Week, first introduced in 1992, is held on the four days that follow the Victoria Day long weekend.  It was designed to increase awareness of Aboriginal peoples among federal public service employees.

Energy Conservation Week

Everyone must do their part in energy conservation. 
We have some excellent examples of local industry stepping up to the plate. Owens Corning has achieved a remarkable 43% reduction per unit of production in 7 years.  McNeil Consumer Healthcare Canadas has achieved an outstanding 72.5% reduction in electricity per unit of production in 19 years.

Victoria Day (Canada) – Her birthday (May 24, 1837-1901) was declared a holiday by the Legislature of the Province of Canada in 1845. United Kingdom celebrates her birthday in June.

Celebrating Diversity – May 13

Out Lady of Fatima (Portugual) – On May 13, 1917 in Portugal, three shepherd children saw and conversed with the Virgin Mary in a vision.  This event occurred on the 13th day of the month for six months in a row.
