Meeting with Smitherman

August 25, 2008

Hans Loewig (CAO), Margaret Neubauer (Treasurer),  Councillor Vicki Beard and I met with Minister Smitherman, Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, this morning.  We had an opportunity to advise him of the priorities of our community energy plan and how they align with provincial energy management goals.  We also were able to brief the new Minister on our plans for the York District Lands (Guelph Innovation District) and the great opportunity to develop an integrated energy master plan for these lands.  The amalgamation of energy and infrastructure into one Ministry will certainly assist moving forward with our partnership with respect to these lands.

That’s great news Karen, thanks for the update! The CEP and the Guelph Innovation District have the potential to reaffirm our city as a leader in sustainable city building. It is so important the Minister Smitherman hear about our vision first hand — and it’s good to hear that you were able to bend his ear in person.
