Meeting with Bradley

August 26, 2008

In addition to our meeting with Minister Smitherman, we also met with Jim Bradley, Minister of Transportation.

We discussed the need to integrate bicycle and pedestrian linkages across HWY 6 into the design of the overpasses and interchanges being considered through the Environmental Assessment and that these linkages should be funded by MTO as part of the project.  The good news is that MTO is reviewing their policies because of growing community expectations for supporting alternative transportation modes.

We also stressed the importance of moving forward with the Laird Road interchange to release development of industrial land.

We discussed the need for extending GO Rail Transit to Guelph and requested a follow up meeting to discuss long term transportation needs for the City and region.  Ministry staff committed to follow up to arrange this meeting.

That is great to hear. I’m looking forward to hearing what comes out of the meeting on transportation planning.
