Today I attended a service at Parkwood Gardens Community Church. The occassion was their annual Friend Day and Pastor Brian Magnus had invited me and Councillor Gloria Kovach as his friends.
Friends are so important. They take care of each other, support each other and reinforce the fact that we are not alone – we’re part of a community.
The visit also reinforced with me why Guelph has been recognized as the most caring community in Canada by Maclean’s Magazine. Almost 70% of Guelphites volunteer to make the world a better place – at home and abroad.
The congregation at Parkwood Gardens Community Church is making a difference in the lives of children in Nicaragua, and Haitians who lost everything to hurricanes. They have also opened their hearts and homes to a young homeless man who is struggling to find his way in what can be a difficult and sometimes lonely world.
I thank the congregation for a lovely morning.
