On Monday night we unveiled a photo of the first woman to be elected to Guelph City Council – Elvie Lowell. She was also the first to preside over a Council meeting.
However, she was not the first woman to serve on Council. That honour goes to Elizabeth Mowat. She was the runner up to Jim Clare. Mr. Clare resigned his position to apply for the job of city solicitor. Elizabeth was not successful in keeping her seat in the next election.
