Several organizations in our community came together to discuss the potential for streamling and centralizing access to fee assistance in recreation and leisure for children and youth. As a result, a Children’s Subsidy Task Force was established with the City of Guelph being a founding member. Membership included:
- Children’s Foundation of Guelph & Wellington
- Child Care Services, County of Wellington
- Guelph Wish Fund for Children
- YMCA-YWCA Guelph
- Guelph Youth Soccer
- United Way of Guelph & Wellington
- Guelph Community Foundation
- Centre Wellington Community Resource Centre
- Guelph Youth Sports Advisory Council
- City of Guelph
Each of these Task Force partners who previously administered fee assistance grants to children and youth have transferred funding to the Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington to coordinate distribrtuion of funds to qualified applicants.
First observation – it is terrific we have so many groups concerned about the access of children and youth to recreational programs.
Second observation – it is equally great there is such collaboration between these groups.
Third observation – all the members of the Task Force deserve our appreciation and in particular the Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington deserves praise for taking on this coordinating function.
Making it easier for families to access assistance will mean more children and youth will be able to take part in recreational activities building a stronger and healthier community.

Building strong kids is essential in building a strong community. I just wanted to also let Guelph know that the Y is open for all and we do offer subsidies for all community members, including youth, students, adults and seniors.
