Last Friday, I signed the contract for the new Organics Processing Facility. We still need Ministry approval to proceed but the signing was the culmination of two years of intensive work to get this facility reopened.
Sometimes it is easy to get so involved in the detailed due diligence and technical work that you lose sight of why we are doing the project in the first place. I recently read the following article from the Slow Food Almanac 2008 (http://www.slowfood.com and http://www.slowfood.com/about_us/eng/publications.lasso) and reprinted in Resurgence Magazine. It was a great reminder of why we established the principle of zero waste in our Waste Management Master Plan, that we are not alone and that this facility is a important part of getting there.
