Infrastructure Project Update

You may have noticed that we are doing a lot of infrastructure work including a lot of sidewalk work.

By the end of June, the tender process for all seventeen engineering projects will be fully complete. Ten of these projects have already commenced and all are on schedule and projected to be complete well before the infrastructure stimulus deadline of March 31, 2011.

With respect to the infrastructure funded Sidewalk Rehabilitation work, efforts are continuing and will result in 20,000m2 of repairs in over 6000 locations city wide.

The Downtown Guelph portion of the work is approximately half complete with an anticipated end date of late July.  Overall, the contract is approximately 35% finalized as of the end of May. Full contract completion is expected in November 2010.

It strikes me that a lot of the sidewalk work and tearing up the newest part of willow road is all just wasting money so you can get more in the next stimulus package. We still don’t have sidewalks or safe bikepaths in the industrial areas. Why not use the money where it is really needed instead of wasting it for wastes sake.
