Guelph People Among Happiest in Canada

Making a Difference

In a recent study released by the Centre for Study of Living Standards, Guelph was named the 11th happiest community in Canada.

In 2007-08 the average level of happiness amongst Canadians aged 20 and above, based on a scale of 1-5, was 4.26, according to data gathered by the Canadian Community Health Survey from Statistics Canada. Guelph was above average at 4.32.

PEI was considered the happiest province and Ontario the least happy.

Items contributing to happiness included a strong sense of belonging to the local community; less stress; an individual’s perceived physical and mental health; marital and immigration status; and employment. Although household income was statistically significant, it carries less economic significance for happiness.

 Congratulations Guelph!
