Organics Waste Processing Facility Construction Progress Update Dec15 2010

Council was provided with the following update on the status of construction of the new Organic Waste Processing Facility. 

The new facility is on track to open in December 2011, as planned.

To the end of November 2010, $12,488,955 has been spent on this project. This equals 38 % of approved budget.

To the end of November 41% of the construction has been completed. Some of the milestones completed to date are:

  • The installation of the liner under the composting and tipping areas was completed on October 21, 2010
  • All seven (7) concrete tunnel footings and walls have been poured
  • The storm drain in the tipping floor area has been installed
  • The concrete walls in the biofilter have been poured
  • Precast hollow core slabs have been placed for the first floor ceiling of the administration building and the ceilings of tunnels 5,6 and 7
  • First level of structural steel and masonry blocks installed for the administration building

Some significant construction milestones that will take place over the next three (3) months are:

  • Installation of the water holding tank
  • Installation of the pre-engineered Behlen building
  • Pour concrete tunnel floors with aeration system installed
  • Complete Administration building and education room
