Update on the Guelph Civic Museum

From our staff…

Since the fall, construction activity has proceeded in a number of locations. Most noticeable for the general public was the installation of the windows, the replacement and repair of the roof, and completion of the exterior plaza and parking lot.  Inside, subfloors and fire-rated ceilings were installed and mechanical and electrical rough-ins commenced.  Currently, the foundation for the elevator in the rear addition is being completed and glazing installation is about to begin.

Interior finishes have been finalized and the final ‘model workshop for the permanent exhibition galleries’ has taken place, allowing the consultant to begin fabrication.

Packing of the artifact collection at the existing Civic Museum is underway.  Almost 300 boxes of smaller artifacts from Main Storage were packed in November and December in preparation for removing the mobile storage units and reinstalling them in the new museum in the coming months.

The Capital Campaign has been extremely successful and Guelph has once again proven to be a generous community.  The goal of the Campaign was $500,000 but I am pleased to report that we will achieve in excess of $700,000.  An announcement will be made in February to celebrate this success and to officially conclude the Campaign.
