Ribbon Cutting for new Data Centre

April 1, 2011

Jobs & the Economy

I joined MPP Liz Sandals and Minister Harinder Takhar (Government Services) for a ribbon cutting ceremony today to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the completion of the Guelph Data Centre.  The new Data Centre creates approximately 150 permanent jobs in Guelph and provided jobs to approximately 400 construction workers daily during the peak of the construction project.

From the Province:

The Guelph Data Centre

  • is the first data centre facility in North America built to achieve LEED (Leadership in Energy Efficiency and Design) certification, which includes rigorous requirements for energy management and conservation.
  • was built according to Tier 4 standards. Tier 4 data centres are built to sustain at least one worst-case unplanned event with no critical load impact.  There are only three Tier 4 certified facilities in North America.
  •  is a highly secure facility designed to protect Ontario’s highly sensitive and personal information assets.  The facility has been designed with the ability to recover and restore critical information in the event of a disaster.
  • provides a major upgrade to Ontario’s information technology support capacity, ensuring the province’s technology systems are robust, reliable and responsive to current and future needs.
