The decision to move forward with a Community Well Being Plan evolved from dozens of discussions with community leaders, service providers, front-line staff, consumers of services and their advocates, the experience of other municipalities and our own.
The principles to guide the development of the Plan were recently approved by Council:
- Engaging residents
- Balancing planning and action (avoiding “analysis paralysis”)
- Building on existing work and knowledge
- Using a collaborative approach
- Drawing on the best from others
- Learning and adaptive
- Monitoring for impact
The Plan will take 3 years to develop. There are three broad phases. The first will engage the leadership in the community to champion, guide and oversee the development of the Plan. The second will shift to the engagement of residents resulting in action priorities and strategies. The third phase to act on what we heard and to monitor and evaluate progress.
