New Transit logo and hybrid vehicle

Along with Councillors Todd Dennis and June Hofland, members of staff and the public, I was on hand today for the unveiling of a new vehicle in Transit’s fleet.

The vehicle is special for two reasons:

  • It is the first vehicle to display Guelph Transit’s new logo
  • It is the first hybrid vehicle in Guelph Transit’s fleet

This is the first time Transit has had its own logo.  The final selection was made by Guelph residents, transit riders and our Transit operators through a survey. The logo marks an exciting new chapter for Guelph Transit.  With the new Transit Growth Strategy, we are taking apart the old transit system and put it back together again, in a way that will work better for riders.  Changes include:

  •  New and improved routes
  • Better service (including 15 minute service in peak times)
  • Expanded mobility transit service
  • New Transit Terminal opening Spring 2012 (a hub for local and inter-regional Transit systems, including GO Trains)

This hybrid vehicle is also the latest example of the greening of the City of Guelph’s fleet. In 2010, Guelph was the first municipality in Ontario to be recognized for sustainable transit fleet management. Guelph was one of just two Ontario cities to receive an E3 Silver rating for sustainable fleet management. E3 stands for “Environment, Energy and Excellence” and is a rating system for fleets that looks at factors such as idling practices, vehicle purchasing practices, fleet operations and maintenance, and fuel efficiency.
