Describing the Community Well Being Plan

I am often asked “what is the Community Well Being Plan about?”  It is a tough thing to sum up in a few words especially since we are only just beginning to engage our community in its development over the next few years.

However, I was recently sent a link to this video which helps to put a face to what we want to achieve for our own community.

As a growing urban centre, we can no longer afford to wait for the County (in its role in providing Social Services, Social Housing and Childcare) or Public Health to fill this planning void in our community.  The Taskforce for the Elimination of Poverty has certainly seen the need.   Substantial resources are made available in our community through government funding, philanthropy, and volunteerism.  Together, we should work to align these resources to clear community outcomes.  We know there is duplication, silos and gaps. We know we can have better coordination and integration of service planning and delivery. And we know there are opportunities to do business differently by embracing new approaches to delivering government services. We have identified over 60 organizations that should be at the table. We hope that the County and Public Health will be among them – while they may not be directly accountable to Guelph residents and businesses, they do control millions of their tax dollars and the delivery of important services in our community.
