The Guelph Sports Hall of Fame Committee recently reported on their service to our community.
The committee was established in 1993 and is comprised of 6 members of the community and 3 members of the Kiwanis Club.
The objectives of the Guelph Sports Hall of Fame are to recognize and honour achievements of Guelph individuals and teams who have attained prominence and distinction in any field of sport and those who have made a major contribution to the development and advancement of sports in Guelph – like former Mayor Norm Jary.
They provide a permanent record and give public prominence to the achievement of such individuals and teams through commemorative plaques that are on public display at the Sleeman Centre.
This year’s inductees were presented with personal plaques at the well-attended annual Guelph Kiwanis Sports Celebrity Dinner which is also a fundraiser for the Guelph Sports Hall of Fame.
Inductees this year included:
- Builder – Leo “Dick” Caroll
- Athlete – Barb Clemes
- Veteran Athlete – Manny Sorbara
- Official – Bill McCreary
- Team – 2009 Buns Master Rollers (floor hockey)
