I was out this morning with my dog and was stopped by a neighbour on his morning walk.
He wanted to talk about the robocall scandal and his real fear for our democratic system. He expressed concern for what he saw as a decline in respect, compassion and public order sweeping our society. He was concerned that Elections Canada and/or the federal government would simply sweep this scandal under the table to maintain the facade of a healthy democratic system.
He is not alone.
We both drew comfort in the fact that Canadians have reacted so strongly against the robocalls that directed certain voters to the wrong polling stations to influence election results. In the U.S., this type of practice sadly seems to have become the norm.
My neighbour received one of these robocalls and, like others across the country, is not prepared to stay silent. I, for one, am thankful.
