Toronto, April 11 – What can six kids from Guelph accomplish in three days? They can transform the underused playground at Norm Jary Park into a vibrant circus-themed space designed for kids, by kids. The park’s revitalization is part of Giver, a new 13-part live-action TV series, co-produced by TVO and Sinking Ship Entertainment, that engages kids in their local communities as they volunteer their time to reimagine and rebuild local playgrounds in parks across Ontario.

Following filming on location last summer, the Guelph episode of Giver premieres on TVO Tuesday, April 24 at 6:30 pm. Six local children ages 9 to 13 joined the Giver team to design and build the circus-themed playground. The kids donned hard hats and learned how to safely use tools like a mitre saw and welding equipment. With only three days to finish the project, they felt a great sense of pride in all that they were able to accomplish.

“Giver has changed me because now I know that I can help change the world in some sort of way. I’m proud of myself!” said 11 year-old Giver participant Siddhi from Guelph.

“Giver shows what kids can do when given the chance to make a difference,” said Patricia Ellingson, TVO’s Creative Head of Children’s Media. “This series is about “kid power,” working as a team, civic engagement and the importance of helping to make your community the best it can be. Giver proves that when given the opportunity, kids can and will do amazing things.”

TVO and Sinking Ship Entertainment worked with the Ontario Parks Association to put a call out to communities across the province in order to select the locations with the greatest need for safe, fun parks. Guelph was one of 13 communities selected from more than 60 submissions from across Ontario.

Beginning April 17, Giver airs Tuesdays at 6:30 pm and repeats Saturdays at 1:30 pm and Sundays at 3:30 pm. Episodes will also be available for online viewing at
