Energizing Communities

I have just returned from attending “Energizing Communities – Creating Solutions with District Energy and Combined Heat and Power”.  This was the annual conference of the Canadian District Energy Association (now merged with the International District Energy Association).

I had the opportunity to speak, as part of a Leadership Panel, about Guelph’s Community Energy Initiative, and specifically our goals for a thermal grid (district energy system and combined heat and power) in the downtown and the Hanlon Creek Business Park.

It was great to hear the experiences of others, from coast to coast, who are integrating energy planning and thermal grids into their communities to build more sustainable, secure and reliable energy futures – lot of experience, expertise and sage advice.  I was very jealous of B.C. communities that have a very supportive provincial environment to build more sustainable communities around thermal grids that deliver heat, efficiently and reliably, to residential and commercial customers.

CEO of Guelph Hydro (GHI), Barry Chuddy was actively involved in the conference as a member of the CDEA board and Jan Carr, GHI Board Member, was interviewed as part of the conference proceedings.  Suffice to say, Guelph’s work was well recognized.
