Contract negotiations

Most contracts with our employee groups are negotiated for a three year period.

When a contract is up for negotiation, Council will provide the Administration with direction for ther negotiations – we often refer to this as a mandate to the negotiating team.

On Monday night, Council provided direction to staff for the upcoming union negotiations with the Guelph Professional Firefighters Association. Staff have been directed to negotiate a fair, reasonable and affordable contract with our firefighters – one that recognizes our belief firefighters should be compensated appropriately for the valued work they do, but also one that recognizes the balance needed to ensure long term affordability for our taxpayers.

I want to express this Council’s and this community’s appreciation for the work that our firefighters do each and every day in keeping the community safe.
