The Council of Canadians-Guelph, Guelph Wellington Coalition for Social Justice, OPIRG, Transition Guelph, Grand River Metis Council and other community groups have organized Idle No More activities in our City. Today, there have been rallies at the University of Guelph and St George’s Square and tomorrow there will be a Rally and Conversation at 10 Carden Street.
I support this noble cause of raising awareness in Guelph about Bill C-45 and other legislation affecting Indigenous people and the environment, and the policies of the federal government.
It is my view that dialogue between government and its citizens is essential to our country’s continued peace and prosperity. I support a dialogue between the Government of Canada and First Nations groups across the country. Through dialogue, effective partnerships can be developed with First Nations. Like many other Canadians, I wish to see progress in resolving issues affecting our country. Below is a copy of a letter I sent to the Prime Minister in support of MP Frank Valeriote’s letter requesting the Prime Minister to meet with Chief Theresa Spence and to act on this matter.04 January 2013- Letter Spence Prime Minister Meeting
