I have written in the past about organ donation. As a result, I have met residents of our community who are waiting for a transplant.
National Organ and Tissue Donation Awarenes Week
I met the woman who told her story in the above posting. Twice.
The first time was at a flag-raising to encourage people to register for organ donation – www.beadonor.ca . She showed me the back pack that she had to live with to keep her heart pumping.
I met her again this Christmas in Stone Road Mall – no back pack! She had a new heart. Wishing her a Happy New Year had a whole different meaning.
Unfortunately, another resident was not so fortunate. I learned this week he passed away having been on the waiting list for a kidney for many years.
We can change this by increasing the registration of people for organ donation. It only takes two minutes.
