The Governor General of Canada, His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston has described the Guelph’s Community Wellbeing Initiative as ”a wonderful example of university- community collaboration.”
The Governor General was delivering an opening address at the Community – University 2013 Expo: Engaging Shared Worlds in Newfoundland on Thursday, June 13. The Expo is being hosted by Grenfell Campus, Memorial University of Newfoundland and the City of Corner Brook, with support from the Provincial Office of Public Engagement.
In the Governor’s words: “This is a great example of how “smartness” can reinforce our “caring.”

CU Expo is a Canadian-led international conference designed to showcase the best practices in community-university partnerships worldwide, and to create opportunities for innovative and successful collaborations which strengthen our communities. The conference has been held every 2 years over the past decade in different provinces, including Ontario, British Columbia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan. CU Expo is organized jointly by communities, universities and colleges, government, and non-profit organizations.
