Guelph’s Youth Strategy getting noticed by the Province

August 28, 2013

Blog, Making a Difference

Our intergovernmental advocacy for our community is not limited to attending the annual meeting of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario.

Recently, policy staff from the Ministry of Child and Youth Services along with members of the Premier’s Council on Youth met with members of our Youth Council and Community and Social Services Staff.

Guelph’s 2013-2018 Youth Strategy was well received. The Ministry has asked permission to share Guelph’s approach with other communities. In particular, our Guelph Youth Council is seen as a model for other communities. The members of the Guelph Youth Council were applauded for their leadership. Their goals related to Youth Voice (Youth Representation of City Council), Transportation (Universal Bus Pass Program) and Youth Safety (Anti Bullying Policies) particularly impressed our Provincial guests.

We will continue to work with Ministry staff to advance the implementation of the Guelph Youth Strategy and take advantage of Provincial funding opportunities that have been announced for youth.
