Today’s court decision is extremely disappointing. The ruling has been posted on guelph.ca.
Council supported the advice given by the administration of the day and is disappointed that the Court decided against the City’s position.
At this time, we are unable to comment much further on this matter until we have received and reviewed the reasons for this decision – they have not yet been provided. I appreciate this will be frustrating for the community. Once we have the reasons for this court decision, there will be further comment.
A timeline that provides background on this issue has been provided on guelph.ca.

This is of course extremely disappointing, and will probably be expensive. I wonder how long we will have to wait for the Judge’s reasons, and whether or not an appeal is possible and worth considering.
Although the decision to hire the inexperienced contractor Urbacon was made two councils ago, and the previous council made the decision to cancel, it is this council that will be forced to wear the blame for a project clearly gone wrong, and that “blame” comes in an election year.
I think the deeper learning moment here is sometimes hiring the lowest bidder is not the wisest decision, and that decision was not made by this council; but the blame will focus on wasted money. Talk about a no win situation.
