This just in from Chief Bryan Larkin:
Statistics Canada has announced the 2013 Crime Severity Index (CSI) and community rankings. Once again, Guelph has shown well as a safe community.
We remain one of the safest communities in Canada with the 2nd lowest CSI for communities over 100,000 – same position as last year at 32 out of 33.
Here is a snapshot of the CSI:
- Guelph has the 2nd lowest CSI in Canada for a community greater than 100,000
- Guelph Overall CSI is down 15.7% (51 to 43)
- Guelph Violent CSI is down 20.6% (53.5 to 42.5)
- Guelph Property CSI is down 13.7% (50 to 43.1)
- Clearance Rate Over All up from 44.3 to 51.0%
- Violent Clearance Rate up from 71.4 to 90.8%
- Non Violent Clearance Rate up 33.8 to 36.7%
The significant increases seen in clearance rates are a tribute to the good work of the Guelph Police Service.
