Welcome to Guelph, Costco

I was thrilled to help officially open Guelph’s brand-new Costco warehouse this morning. There was an enthusiastic crowd – it felt like all 16,000 Costco members in Guelph had turned up for the first day!

The 148,000 square-foot Costco warehouse has created about 250 new jobs in Guelph. As I said in my remarks this morning, these are good jobs, with an organization that is well-known for corporate responsibility, community involvement, and developing its employees. Costco has even been named one of Canada’s top employers for young people.

It’s great news for our city that Guelph’s loyal Costco customers, who until now had to drive to a neighboring city, will now be spending their dollars right here in our community.

Costco will make a positive impact on lots of people for different reasons – as an employer, as a shopping destination, and as a corporate citizen and member of our community.

Welcome to Guelph!
